2001 FOALS IN UTERO

We have an excellent broodmare base for The Ultimate Piaffe’s sport horse breeding program.  We have domestic and imported Warmblood mares and premium rated Thoroughbred mares.  These mares are all proven producers of top foals that have movement and jumping ability to put their riders on top.  We offer a wide variety of International Hanoverian, Oldenburg, Dutch and French pedigrees in different sizes, colors and types.    We have purchased the mares, got them safely in foal, provided them with the best veterinary care and fed them a carefully researched diet aimed at ensuring orthopedic health in the foals.

We are pleased to offer our 2001 foal crop for special in utero and pre-inspection prices.  This program has been embraced by investment minded buyers who are very pleased with their Ultimate Piaffe bred sport horses.  Review the 2001 breedings and give us a call if something catches your eye.

(Already Foaled) LOTTA CURRENCY THREE STAR MARE

Three-Star Premium rated mare, Lotta Currency XX produces dressage horses selected by F.E.I. level dressage trainers and riders, including U.S.E.T. dressage team member and A.H.S.A. Judge, Sandy Howard.

Due in March 2001, our matriarch, the 16.2 hand, dark bay premium rated Thoroughbred mare, Lotta Currency is a very special mare.   She has been awarded Three Stars from the ISR/Oldenburg N.A.  for her individual premium quality and her ability to produce premium foals as well as her ability to produce open competition horses and premium mares.  Lotta Currency has the perfect type for sport horse breeding, she is tall and has a large rectangular frame, well-muscled hindquarters and good bore.  Her face shows presence and quality and her dark liquid eyes speak of her willing sensible nature.  She has produced Five premium foals and one 7.5 foal by Ideal, all of which demonstrate form earlier on and a rare balance in motivated and expressive movement.  They have freedom and regularity in rhythm, swing and rotation over the top lines and desirable suspension, but most importantly, they are exceptional in their ability to come underneath themselves and load and engage the hind end, which translates to collection.  We believe that the very reason the Ideal x Lotta Currency offspring are selected by F.E.I. dressage riders is that they have experience in what it takes to make a Grand Prix horse.  What good is a flashy front end unless the horse can “sit” and collect?

Interflocken, Ideal’s first son, scored an 8.5 and first premium at his evaluation.  The gray matured at 16.3 hands and was the first horse his buyer had trained above first level.  Interflocken had Grand Prix talent.  Steffan Peters said that Interflocken had what it takes to be a top F.E.I. horse.  He has a brilliant Piaffe. He was shown from training level to fourth level at AHSA/USDF competitions with many wins and high placings.  In 1998 he was USDF All Breeds Champion at Third level.

USET Dressage team member and AHSA “S” judge, Sandy Howard, went to Europe several times before finding her Grand Prix prospect in Iko.  Howard actually saw how easy piaffe was for Interflocken and that had helped her to determine to give Iko a second look.  Iko, a chestnut gelding who matured at 16.2+ hands, has competed under Sandy from Training level to Third level with scores averaging in the mid 70%’s.  Howard admits she is only showing Iko, now called Euro Pro Iko, very lightly – only one test a day at a handful of shows – because she wants to keep him fresh and happy.  She doesn’t care if Iko is a super medium level horse, she knows he’ll be a fantastic Grand Prix horse. Howard says that Iko’s piaffe is natural and lateral work and changes are easy and she wants to enjoy Euro Pro Iko for a long time. (Sandy Howard and IKO shown at right.)

Integral, 8.5 gray gelding, was selected by an F.E.I. level rider in Minnesota for his exceptional ability to get underneath himself.

Our Barn Manager, Val Zeek selected Ivy, 8.5 premium bay filly, as her dressage horse (she had the foal crop to choose from).  Val is best known for her championships with the Ideal gelding, Illusion.  Val has already collected her first ribbon with Ivy at a Training level (second time away from home!).  The lucky girl selected quite a wonderful mare.  In the summer of 2000, Ivy was awarded premium status with the IRS/Oldenburg N.A.  Ivy is a true bay and will not gray.  Not yet full grown, Ivy stands over 16.1 hands and is very substantial  in the bone and frame, without losing her feminine quality.

The 2000 bay colt Izod was one of Michelle’s all time favorite foals.  She desperately wanted him to go to a “show” home.  F.E.I. level rider Terry Walker viewed over 200 tapes of dressage horses of different ages before she found the horse of her dreams in Izod.  Unfortunately at just 10 months old, he was much younger than what she and her coach, the Canadian Dressage Team member and Grand Prix rider, Tom Dovorcak had discussed.  Terry desperately wanted Tom to like Izod, as his decision would be final.  Terry was concerned because Tom was even going to show her some videos of horses he’d selected.  Terry had narrowed it down to her top five favorites and saved Izod for last.  The other four didn’t disappoint Tom but felt none made him sit up and take notice, until Izod came on the screen.  His words were “now here’s a quality horse” and “he’ll be worth the wait”.  Michelle was delighted such a talented, well-educated and committed dressage rider would own the true bay colt and Terry has been wonderful with the updates.  Izod is already 15.2 hands at one and a half years old and is expected to make it to 16.2 or better.

The 2001 foal should make it between 16.1 and 16.3 hands, most likely it will be a colt and color options are gray, bay and chestnut.  Premium award is almost guaranteed.  The Ideal x Lotta Currency XX 2001 foal should get as close as you can get to a guarantee that it will be a highly desirable dressage mover with three outstanding gaits.

UPDATE! Rotterdam's 2001 IDEAL Foal, a filly named Ika, was born April 1, 2001.

IN 2000 OUR VERY OWN PROXY BECAME THE FIRST MARE IN THE ISR/OLDENBURG REGISTRY TO PRODUCE 2 FOALS THAT SCORED 9.0 IN MOVEMENT.

Hanoverian Mare By Palladium (Pik Solo)/Wenzel I/Aderlass/Valentino xx

She is 2 for 2 for producing 9.0 movers due May 10, 2001.

(Already Foaled) Proxy, our chestnut Hanoverian mare is approved MSB Hanoverian (we declined the neck brand) and MMB ISR/Oldenburg N.A.  Proxy is by the Hanoverian Grand Prix competition stallion, Palladium, by the Stallion Pik Solo, known for producing super dressage movement.  She is out of an imported Hanoverian mare by one of the best dressage stallions of all time, Wenzel I, out of Aderlass x Valentino xx mare.

International Grand Prix dressage horses and precious breeding stallions such as Woermann, World Cup I, Welcome LRF, Walk On Top, Western Star and Weyden are some of the relatives Proxy and her offspring share.  Proxy has produced two foals for Ideal, both of them received premium status, impressive yes, but what is absolutely exceptional is that both foals were awarded the extremely high score of 9.0 for their outstanding movement.

The first foal, the gray colt Immerwyn, (shown left and above) was just massive.  He really had the looks of the older type Warmblood, but the moment he began to move he knocked the socks off the ISR/Oldenburg jury, as he transformed into a modern mover with an abundance of suspension, thrust and elasticity.  His huge strides matched those of his Dam who is a fabulous mover.  The jury awarded Immerwyn a 9.0 for that lovely uphill extravagant movement and “Vinnie” ended up with a final score of 8.0 with Premium status.  The 9.0 score in the individual category of Movement is quite rare.  In one season the jury might see 500 foals and award only 1 or 2 scores of 9.0 in movement.  Some seasons pass without a single foal receiving a 9.0 in movement, which makes Proxy special, especially when in 2000 Proxy’s second foal, the chestnut filly Immerstar, earned herself a 9.0 in Movement. UPDATE! TOO LATE to buy in Utero. Proxy delivered a colt May 19, 2001.

Only Mare in ISR/Oldenburg N.A. Registry with 2 Foals having 9.0 in Movement

This accomplishment makes Proxy the only registered mare in the ISR/Oldenburg N.A. that has produced 2 foals that have been awarded 9.0 in Movement.  From 1997 through 2000 foals have been scored on movement.  During that period, 8 foals have received the score of 9.0 in Movement.  Ideal has sired four of those foals.  The remaining four foals were sired by four different stallions.

Although quite large, Immerstar was rounder in her frame and decidedly more feminine than her wonderful brother.  Remembering the pleasing experience of watching “Vinnie” float around the arena, Ekkehart Brysh hoped Immerstar would give a repeat performance.  Byrsh was not disappointed.  Star’s 9.0 movement score was sandwiched between an 8.0 for Conformation and an 8.5 for Overall Impression.  Immerstar received the high final score of 8.5 and didn’t just receive Premium status, but was Champion and 1st Premium of her premium candidate ring.

On top of that, Immerstar tied for 1st place along with two other foals in the 2000 ISR/Oldenburg  NA evaluations out of a total of 510 foals scored.

Immerwyn sold as a weanling to a Canadian F.E.I. level dressage trainer/rider and at three and 1/2 is over 17.2 and still growing.  We are pleased because “Vinnie” has not lost any of his quality of rhythm or elasticity under saddle and he has a wonderful canter with lovely cadence.

Ideal and Proxy's IMMERSTAR

Immerstar sold before her inspection through our special (in utero breeding) program to a 5’ 10” advanced dressage rider, who – needless to say – is thrilled with her investment.  The Ideal x Proxy offspring seem to appeal to dressage riders who are attracted to the older type Warmblood, but also demand the modern movement essential for success in the competition arena.  Make sure you want tall, at least 17 hands, and a large frame and bone. These guys will never be confused for “big” thoroughbreds.  Please note that both Immerwyn and Immerstar had buyers waiting to jump, if the first sale fell through.  This type of horse really has its fan club. Call early to avoid disappointment. (SEE Photos of Proxy's 2001 Colt on 2001 Foals for Sale)

MEET KAT

NEW TO THE ULTIMATE PIAFFE…… BUT THIS HANOVERIAN MARE IS NO STRANGER TO THE PREMIUM RING

CINTINKA Hanoverian Two Star Mare. Has two Premium fillies, one with a 9.0 scores and both have become a Premium Mares. The other was Champion of the 1997 East Coast Mare Championships.

(Already Foaled) Sometimes you just get lucky. When we viewed the sales video of Catinka we were immediately struck by how much she looked like our beloved matriarch Lotta Currency. The dark bay mare was really impressive, but when the 17.2 hand mare began to move we were absolutely thrilled. Watching that large but decidedly feminine mare move over the ground with huge lofty strides that had so much suspension you could hardly see her touch the ground...well it could only be described as breathtaking. Later we discovered that not only did she resemble Lotta Currency, Catinka had the same sweet, patient and affectionate nature. They both have those huge dark liquid brown eyes that capture your soul. We weren’t looking for another mare but when something that special comes along it would have be foolish to pass her up. We believe that our good fortune in acquiring this mare will be passed along to the lucky people who will purchase her future foals.

Catinka was imported from Germany to the United States as an F.E.I. level dressage prospect. Catinka is by the German Trakehner Stallion Consul (not to be confused with the Dutch stallion) who is the sire of many F.E.I. dressage horses.  Catinka’s dam, a states premium Hanoverian mare is by the State Celle stud Werther, who produced both Grand Prix Jumpers and Grand Prix Dressage horses, including, Hilda Gurney’s  bay Hanoverian, Willy the Great. Catinka’s maternal great grandfather is Absatz. With these exceptional dressage pedigrees it is no surprise that Catinka is the world class mover that she is, but unfortunately an injury took her out of the dressage court and into the broodmare barn.

Catinka has produced premium foals, premium mares, performance tested premium mares, and several USDF breed show Champions, by the Hill Top stallions. Catinka has produced two Premium fillies including a 9.0 rated filly.  Both of these fillies are now Premium Mares.  One of the mares, Parlez, was 1997 East Coast Mare Champion.  We are proud of Catinka’s special accomplishments.

In 1998 Catinka was presented to the AHS and was Champion of her testing and was one of the highest scoring Hanoverian mares for the year.  She was approved MSB Hanoverian. Catinka scored a massive 7.6 with Premium honors from the ISR/Oldenburg N.A.

We are all overwhelmingly happy to have acquired Catinka. We believe that she will compliment out program and help to add to our goal of producing a variety of foal types to offer to prospective buyers. (We recognize the fact that sport horse buyers are individually unique in what type they desire.  We try to offer varying types and sizes, while maintaining the goals of producing quality sport horses, with tractable and sane temperaments, brilliant movement, and orthopedic soundness to ensure that each foal we bring into the world, leads a full and safe life).

Bred to Ideal we expect a foal with truly international dressage movement, and a willingness to work and a desire to please seen in the top competition horses. The foal could be gray, bay or black and at maturity will stand between 16.2 and 17.2 hands. The pedigrees on both sides would prove this offspring to be a desirable breeding prospect, adding to the attractiveness of this foal.

The foal will be presented to the ISR/Oldenburg N.A. in September of 2001, and will be branded Oldenburg.

UPDATE  Cat foaled a wonderfully beautiful filly (we are calling her KIT as a barn name) on June 14th.

PREMIUM MARE PRODUCED THE # 1 FOAL IN 2000!

This is the MARE known as STEP

STEP Two Star Premium TB Mare. Has had three foals with 9.0 (two conformation and one for movement) Take a “STEP” Forward in Your Next  Sport  Horse Foal

(Already Foaled) Yet another example of our good fortune, we acquired the Premium rated TB mare, High Steppin Granny, from her owner of the past several years. This exquisite dappled bay mare with four white socks, is more than just another pretty TB put into a breeding program because there was nothing else to do with her. She is correct in type and quite attractive, but her real beauty comes out in her lovely movement that combines swing and elasticity over the top line with the ability to engage in the hind end. It was no surprise when the IRS/OLDENBURG  N.A. added her to the main mare book with a Premium status.

“Step” produced a Jockey Club foal before being sold to her previous owner Shannon Augustus, Shannon trained and competed with “Step” in Dressage up to second level before she took some time off to produce more foals, this time Oldenburgs. It is interesting to note that the first owner, who bred Step’s first foal for the track, came back looking to purchase her from Shannon.  It seemed that the offspring was quite a winner and the man from the race track wanted to breed more of them. Shannon wouldn’t have it.

Her first foal by Ideal was the 7.5 rated gray Oldenburg filly Indiana Ho. This mare is unbelievably quiet (but forward isn’t an issue) and a fabulous mover.  At her first recognized dressage show she won her classes with scores in the 70%’s. Indiana also goes on 50 mile endurance rides and just for fun, Shannon has been known to show up with the 16.1 hand generously framed, large boned Indiana at the local team penning events. The cowboys are confused by her breeding but enjoy watching her get the cows. Shannon said Indy is a dream come true, a horse that can do all that and stand tied to the trailer for hours without turning a hair.

Ivanhoe, the second Ideal foal, was an extremely good looking chestnut colt, who scored a 9.0 in conformation, and a 8.0 in movement and a 8.5 in overall impression from the ISR/Oldenburg N.A. With his final score of 8.5 Ivanhoe ended the year ranking 4th out of  over 500 foals presented.  Shannon had leased Step to a family whose young daughter rode her at recognized dressage competitions and then used her for a breeding before being returned to Shannon.

Ivanhoe is shown on the right.

The 99 filly Inge, (below) was bred by Shannon, and from day one looked like she was going to be something very special. At her evaluation the crowd of spectators just couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw Inge move. She had a rare combination of extremely animated, articulate movement in her limbs, while still showing wildly alluring powerful thrust. Inge demonstrated the very essence of what all sport horse breeders hope to produce.  She is the complete package and is definitely of the quality being produced in Europe. Some of the spectators and fellow breeders thought Inge would receive a 9.0 in movement, but the jury wanted to see Inge sustain the trot longer (the novice handler did a good job for her first effort, but 9 in movement  was a possibility) However Inge did receive a 9.0 and that was for her perfect conformation. Adding that 9.0 score to her 8.5 movement score and her 8.5 score  for overall impression, added up to a 8.5 final score, INGE TIED FOR SECOND PLACE AS THE HIGHEST SCORING FOAL IN NORTH AMERICA OUT OF OVER 500 FOALS PRESENTED...THE FOAL SHE TIED WITH WAS ALSO BY IDEAL. We had a wave of phone calls of people wanting to purchase Inge but Shannon couldn’t let go of her Inge.

Inge is shown on the left.

The Ultimate Piaffe purchased Step and bred her to the worlds most successful elite sport horse stallion Gauguin de Lully. It was logical for us to stick with the breeding that had been so successful but we decided that  Step would really cross well with the stallion, now deceased, who we happily represent in North America for JJ Funfschilling. When a beautiful bay colt with four white socks and a perfect white blaze was born we knew we hit that mark. Gauguin’s Next Step, in fact was so exceptional that he is currently being considered a stallion prospect. The ISR/Oldenburg N.A. agreed, and just like his ˝ sister Inge, “Cash” demonstrated the same enormous strides and lofty suspension that is what every dressage rider is looking for in a F.E.I. prospect. Ekkehard Brysch, judge, recognized the colts type, quality and pedigree deeming “Cash” a stallion prospect, but when he watched  Step’s baby boy free, he turned to the crowd with much enthusiasm and said “did you see that? He never touched the ground!” Brysch decided the enormous trot was deserving of the coveted 9.0 in the category of movement. IN THE ENTIRE 2000 BREEDING TOUR ONLY TWO FOALS RECEIVED 9.0 IN THE MOVEMENT CATEGORY...GAUGUIN’S NEXT STEP AND IMMERSTAR...BOTH WERE PRESENTED AT THE LAKE OSWEGO OREGON EVALUATION.

The 9.0 with a 8.0 in conformation (the colt was a little small at the time but has since caught up) combined with an 8.5 score for overall impression, left “Cash” with a final score of 8.5. When all the scores of the 2000 breeding season were tabulated----GAUGUIN’S NEXT STEP TIED FOR FIRST PLACE AS THE HIGHEST SCORING FOAL IN NORTH AMERICA OUT OF 510   FOALS PRESENTED....THE OTHER FOAL WAS THE IDEAL FILLY IMMERSTAR OUT OF PROXY also bred by the Ultimate Piaffe, and a Riverman foal who had a 9.0 in conformation and 8.0 movement and 8.5 in overall impression.

Cash (Gauguin's Next Step) is shown on the left.

Step is bred to Ideal for the 2001 season and we are looking forward to another Premium foal with outstanding dressage movement, exceptionally correct conformation and a sane mind. If you are one to be concerned about not getting enough bone or a correct sized frame with a TB cross, there is no need to worry with this cross.

The 2001 foal could quite possibly be a Premium with a spot in the top 10 or even top 5 in North America, after all Step has done it before!

FRESIA and Illsa 2000

HER 17 HAND FRAME IS IMPRESSIVE BUT NOT EXCESSIVE

SHE IS PICTURE PERFECT, WITH DASHES AND SPLASHES OF

WHITE ON A WARM BAY COAT. AND SHE INTRODUCES

PURIOSO, JOOST AND ABATZ TO OUR BREEDING PROGRAM

.......OH YES, AND HER FIRST FOAL FOR US WAS RANKED  THE

3RD FOAL IN NORTH AMERICA!

Due in July of 2001. Freisa, our bay, 17 hand + Dutch bred main mare book mare produced her first foal for The Ultimate Piaffe in 2000. Ilissa, a grey filly with high socks and a blaze, was named after Carol and Victor’s youngest daughter Melissa, and like her names sake Ilissa is both wonderfully sweet and a bit of a princess. Freisa has produced several breed show winners including USDF young horse champions. She has a young son showing at AHSA/USDF competitions with a junior young rider at first level . . . he is very tall, bay and quite a good mover.

When we selected Freisa we were especially impressed with her natural uphill frame and the ease at which she elevated her front end as she moved. We also saw several of her offspring by various warmblood stallions. Each offspring we viewed, without exception, possessed flexible, powerful and extravagant dressage movement. They also are remarkably consistent in type, taking on their mother’s attractive look and large frame and size without being heavy or course. One of the stallions Freisa was bred a few times was a son of the Dutch stallion "Oldenburg" who is by Inschallah (Ideal ‘s sire) so we felt like we could predict, even more clearly, what kind of foal Ideal and Freisa would produce. When Ilissa was born, we were taken with her affectionate nature (most foals, unsure of which body to bond to in their first few hours of life, are not afraid of humans, but within six hours newborn foals become shy and more difficult to approach) and her trust and fondness of people never went away. Ilissa was definitely a quality foal and she sold to her new owner, a dressage rider, before the ISR/Oldenburg evaluation in August of 2000.

Look at Ilissa’s picture from the August 2000 evaluation, she looks like an international dressage horse. Imagine a rider on her back, and you have the perfect picture. Ilissa received 8.5 scores across the board for Conformation, Movement and Overall Impression. Ilissa received a PREMIUM AWARD WITH A SCORE OF 8.5! . These very high and very balanced scores tied ILISSA AS THE 3RD HIGHEST SCORING FOAL, (THE ONLY FILLY) OUT OF 510 FOALS PRESENTED IN 2000! We actually predicted, in last years in utero foal sale’s page, that the 2000 foal would most likely be a top 10 in the country.

We expect the 2001 foal to be very consistent in conformation, movement and type. The foal should be tall and impressive, with a strong bone and correct uphill frame. It should mature between 16.2 and 17 hands depending on sex. We have seen bay, chestnut and grey and they usually have some white in the face and limbs. Although we see the foal as a sure bet to be a dressage star, there is certainly no reason for the jumping pedigree not to come out in the 2001 foal.

By the way, Ilissa shown with Fresia is available for purchase.
